Comparison of different approaches to multistage lot sizing with uncertain demand

چکیده
We study a new variant of the classical lot sizing problem with uncertain demand where neither planning horizon nor demands are known exactly. This situation arises in practice when customer arriving over time confirmed rather lately during transportation process. In terms planning, this setting necessitates rolling procedure overall multistage is dissolved into series coupled snapshot problems under uncertainty. Depending on available data and risk disposition, different approaches from online optimization, stochastic programming, robust optimization viable to model solve problems. evaluate impact selected methodology solution quality using methodology-agnostic framework for decision-making provide computational results within regarding types uncertainty, approaches, value information about upcoming demands.

robust simultaneous lot-sizing & scheduling model with uncertain demand
optimization models have been used to support decision making in production planning for a long time. however, several of those models are deterministic and do not address the variability that is present in some of the data. robust optimization is a methodology which can deal with the uncertainty or variability in optimization problems by computing a solution which is feasible for all possible ...
متن کاملMultistage Lot Sizing Problems via Randomized Rounding
We study the classical multistage lot sizing problem that arises in distribution and inventory systems. A celebrated result in this area is the 94% and 98% approximation guarantee provided by power-of-two policies. In this paper, we propose a simple randomized rounding algorithm to establish these performance bounds. We use this new technique to extend several results for the capacitated lot si...
متن کاملDuality Approaches to Economic Lot-Sizing Games
Sharing common production, resources and services to reduce cost are important for not for profit operations due to limited and mission-oriented budget and effective cost allocation mechanisms are essential for encouraging effective collaborations. In this paper, we illustrate how rigorous methodologies can be developed to derive effective cost allocations to facilitate sustainable collaboratio...
متن کاملLot sizing with rework and different inspection costs
This paper deals with the single machine multi-product lot scheduling problem in which defective items are produced in any production run of each product. We have adopted the common cycle scheduling policy and assumed that the setup times for production of each product can be non-zero. Further, we have assumed that defective items will be reworked and the inspection costs during the normal prod...
متن کاملA Dynamic Lot-Sizing Model with Demand Time Windows
One of the basic assumptions of the classical dynamic lot-sizing model is that the aggregate demand of a given period must be satisfied in that period. Under this assumption, if backlogging is not allowed then the demand of a given period cannot be delivered earlier or later than the period. If backlogging is allowed, the demand of a given period cannot be delivered earlier than the period, but...
